Verstegen starts construction of energy-generating facade

At Verstegen, we have ambitious plans for generating sustainable energy. How will we achieve this? One way is by installing solar panels on the facade of the office building. This project marks an important step towards achieving our sustainability ambitions .

Efficient use of vertical space

Verstegen opted for solar facades as a smart alternative to solar panels on its office building. This decision was made due to the unfavorable characteristics of the roof, which is unsuitable for solar panels. Solar facades utilize the building's vertical space in a unique and optimal way and offer effective energy yield, especially when the sun is low in the sky. Furthermore, the integrated facade insulation and effective design minimize energy loss.

Making the Spanish Polder greener

Verstegen aims to be a model for sustainability in the Spaanse Polder. With this innovative system, we aim to be both an inspiring example for others in the region and a catalyst for further greening.

How the ZigZagSolar System transforms facades into energy sources

The patented ZigZagSolar system will be installed on the facade, ensuring an exceptionally high energy yield while also enhancing aesthetics. This system allows for a unique energy generation method in urban environments. The zig-shaped solar panels face the sun, while the zag-shaped composite elements are clearly visible from the street. This ingenious design reduces the load on the grid and increases the energy value. The vertical design provides energy when needed, in every season, even during short, dark days.

Energy-neutral future

The office building is already completely gas-free and is heated electrically. The insulation upgrade will reduce energy loss and increase energy efficiency. Starting in 2024, the building will generate sustainable energy (as much as 100,000 kWh per year), reducing our reliance on fossil fuels. The solar façade will generate high energy yields in the morning, evening, and during the heating season, allowing for simultaneous use of the generated energy. No energy will flow to the electricity grid.

These efforts contribute to the goal of reducing carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions, which is essential in the fight against climate change.
