As a Category Developer Retail at Verstegen, you are the ultimate content expert in herbs and spices within the retail sector. You know exactly what’s happening in the category and translate shopper, consumer, and sales data into concrete commercial opportunities.

You are not only an internal sparring partner for sales, marketing, and product management but also frequently meet with clients. There, you advise them, based on facts and insights, on assortment, promotion, shelf layout, and growth opportunities. You don’t have sales targets, but you do have a lot of influence because your analyses and advice help determine the choices we make.

You will have a lot of freedom to translate data into actions that truly make an impact. This includes new product introductions, improved shelf layouts, or a stronger promotional approach with clients like Jumbo.

About the team:

You will join the Channel & Category Development team Retail. A team consisting of a lead, two Category Developers, and a Shopper & Trade Marketer. You will report to the Channel & Category Development Lead Retail.

Your challenges

As a Retail Category Developer, you are responsible for developing category plans and advising both internal colleagues and clients. You combine data, market knowledge, and commercial insights to further grow the category. Your main activities include:


Who are you?

You are analytically strong, commercially minded, and know exactly how to translate data into a clear narrative. You enjoy independently engaging with clients and dare to express your opinion from an independent advisory role.

You are someone who first analyzes and then persuades. You don't always have to be the loudest in the room, but you know when to make a point. With strong arguments, based on facts.

In addition:
● You have a completed HBO or university education, for example in commercial economics, business administration or a comparable field.
● You have at least 4 years of relevant work experience within FMCG, category management or trade marketing.
● You have experience with Circana and/or Nielsen. Experience with 7EVEN is a definite plus.
● You are strong in analysis, structuring, and presentation.
● You can translate complex data into clear insights and concrete actions.
