As a Retail Service Merchandiser at Verstegen, you ensure that our spice shelves in supermarkets are always neat, well-stocked, and well-maintained. You visit stores in your region (Utrecht region) daily, restock shelves, check expiration dates, place orders, and make sure everything is in order before moving on to the next store.
You work independently, are on the road a lot, and have your own fixed route. This means freedom, but also responsibility. Because in the stores you visit, you are the face of Verstegen. Thanks to your work, the shelf looks good, our products are available, and customers can find what they need. That may sound simple, but it really makes a difference. A well-maintained shelf directly leads to more sales.
We are looking for someone who understands supermarket logic. Perhaps you currently work as a replenishment team leader, department manager, assistant supermarket manager, or have previously worked as a merchandiser. You know how a store works, enjoy getting things done, and appreciate being able to organize your day independently.

You will be joining Verstegen's Service Merchandise team. In total, you'll be working with approximately 9 fellow merchandisers and colleagues from sales. You will report to the Service Merchandise Manager.
The atmosphere is practical, direct, and informal. Everyone has their own area, but you're not alone. You'll have regular contact with colleagues and know how to find each other when needed. At the same time, this is primarily a role for someone who can work well independently and enjoys being on the road.
You are responsible for a fixed territory in the Greater Utrecht region. This includes Utrecht, Amersfoort, Hilversum, Huizen, Gorinchem, and surrounding towns. You visit supermarkets such as Nettorama, Boon, and Poiesz weekly following a fixed route. You usually start your day early. You pick up stock at a depot, load your van in route order, and then drive to your first store. There, you report to the store manager, check the shelf, restock using FiFo, thoroughly clean the shelf, and place the order for the next delivery. Your main tasks:
Visiting supermarkets according to
a fixed weekly schedule.
Replenishing and maintaining the
Verstegen shelf according to the shelf plan.
Checking expiration dates and preventing BBE issues.
Monitoring stock and placing orders via a tablet.
Keep the herb shelf tidy, clean, and attractive.
Identifying opportunities in the store and collaborating with colleagues on them.
Maintaining contact with store managers.
Placing and setting up displays as needed.
Ensuring your stores look great every
week.
You are someone who enjoys hands-on work. You like working independently, but you also understand that you represent Verstegen when you visit customers. Therefore, you are presentable, reliable, and meticulous in your work.
You don't need to be an experienced Service Merchandiser, but supermarket knowledge is important. You understand how a shelf works, why inventory accuracy matters, and why a neat presentation makes a difference.
Additionally:
● You have an MBO (intermediate vocational education) level of work and thinking.
● You have experience in a supermarket, for example, as a team leader, department manager, assistant supermarket manager, or dry goods employee.
● You also have experience as a merchandiser within retail or food.
● You can work well independently and don't mind spending a lot of time on the road alone.
● You are accurate, responsible, and presentable.
● You have a valid B driver's license.
