Small meatballs with sweet red cabbage
Meatballs with red cabbage and mashed potatoes. A delicious AVG for a weeknight dinner.
Preparation
Peel the potatoes and cut them into equal pieces.
Wash the apples, remove the cores, and cut the unpeeled apples into small wedges. Bring the red cabbage to a boil with 25g of butter, the sugar, the apple slices, and the water. Reduce the heat and simmer gently for 20 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Place the pan with the peeled potatoes in plenty of water on the stove and cook, adding salt if necessary, for 20 minutes until done.
Meanwhile, peel the onion and slice it into half rings. Mix the ground meat with an egg and the packet of Ground Meat Mix – With Onions. Form small meatballs, about the size of a ping-pong ball.
Heat 25g of butter in a Dutch oven and fry the meatballs for about 10 minutes, or until golden brown. Add the onion rings halfway through and fry them in the pan.
Drain the potatoes. Mash them with the milk, 25g butter, mustard, and optionally black pepper and sea salt using a potato masher. Serve the red cabbage with the mash and meatballs.

- 1.2 kg kruimige aardappel
- 500 g rundergehakt
- 600 g gesneden rode kool
- 2 appels, bijv. elstar
- 1 ui
- 200 ml melk
- 1 ei
- 1 zakje Mix voor Gehakt – Met Uitjes
- 75 g boter
- 150 ml kraanwater
- 1 el grove mosterd
- 2 el suiker
- Zwarte peper, naar smaak
- Zeezout, naar smaak
