Make your own gingerbread nuts with this recipe
During the Sinterklaas celebrations, we eat all sorts of treats, including gingerbread nuts. With this recipe, making your own gingerbread nuts is easy! The Spice Mix for Cookies & Speculaas and ground fennel seeds give this treat a delicious twist. This recipe makes about 10 handfuls of gingerbread nuts, perfect for sharing with a group of people.
Preparation
Preheat the oven to 175°C.
Cut the cold butter into cubes and place this in a bowl together with the self-raising flour, the brown caster sugar, the Spice Mix for Cookies & Speculaas, the Fennel seed (ground) and a pinch of salt.
Knead this together and add 2 to 3 tablespoons of cold milk while kneading until you have a nice firm ball of dough.
Let the dough stiffen in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
Roll small balls of about 5 grams from the dough and place them on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
Press the balls lightly with your finger and bake the spice nuts (in batches, if necessary) for about 30 minutes in the preheated oven.
